Avtek Sign Up To The Scottish Business Pledge

Published on 7th May 2018

Avtek Solutions has reinforced its position as one of the UK’s leading specialist contractors for delivering full building envelopes by signing up to the Scottish Business Pledge as a sign of its commitment to offering the best working practices.

As a company which set out to create new standards in the industry for service and quality, Avtek has already been paying its staff in excess of the living wage, however, the commitment to the Scottish Business Pledge demonstrates its forward-thinking approach.

A government led initiative, the Scottish Business Pledge seeks companies to voluntarily commit to, and embrace, the principles of fairness, opportunity, equality and innovation.
Signing up to the pledge also reinforces Avtek’s active investment in youths, having already offered modern apprenticeships to no less than 4 employees over the past 12 months.

Avtek Solutions will also continue to support the local community through community benefit packages, which commits to employing local people as well as local supply chains.

Avtek Solutions’ Commercial Director, Ricky Shields, commented “We are proud to already deliver on the fair work practices that make up the pledge and will use them as a core foundation in our long-term growth plan.”

He continued, “We are constantly looking to build and improve every aspect of our business practices and continue to work alongside key stakeholders and partners such as Opportunities Fife, Business Gateway Fife and Scottish Enterprise to see real innovation and development.”

What is the Scottish Business Pledge

Broken down into 9 components, the Scottish Business pledge can only be made by companies who pay the real living wage (which at £8.75 is significantly higher than the £7.83 currently offered as the national living wage by the government for those over 25 years). Companies must also deliver on at least two other elements which include:

  1. Paying the Living Wage
  2. Not using exploitative zero hours contracts
  3. Supporting progressive workforce engagement
  4. Investing in youth
  5. Making progress on diversity and gender balance
  6. Committing to an innovation programme
  7. Pursuing international business opportunities
  8. Playing an active role in the community
  9. Committing to prompt payment
